I am a Research Fellow at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Switzerland.

My research and teaching fields include development and environmental economics, international trade and finance, micro-econometrics and applied machine learning. I use a combination of administrative and geo-spatial (big) data, household surveys and field experiments in my research.

My previous field research focused on South Asia, while I am currently working on projects in West Africa and the Mekong region.

Current position:

Lead Researcher for Swiss Program for Research on Global Issues for Development (r4d.ch)-funded research project on curbing commodity trade-related illicit financial flows from resource-rich developing countries.

Co-applicant for Swiss Program for Research on Global Issues for Development (r4d.ch)-funded r4d Synthesis project.

 

Recent Updates:

August 2022: New publication at International Trade Journal titled, Abnormal Pricing in International Commodity Trade: Evidence from Lao P.D.R. (with Vanxay Sayavong and Vanthana Nolintha)

May 2022: On 20th May, I am hosting a multi-stakeholder workshop on North-South Research Partnerships with exciting speakers from Ghana, Laos and Switzerland, included in the 2022 Annual Conference program of the Swiss Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries (KFPE) and swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network (SUDAC).

May 2022: My research is cited by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Swiss Parliament as the basis for policy discussions and reporting on improving transparency of financial flows into Switzerland.

January 2022: New publication forthcoming at International Economics titled, Abnormal Pricing in International Commodity Trade: Empirical Evidence from Ghana (with Ama Ahene-Codjoe and Angela Alu at the University of Ghana)

October 2021: Co-organised a multi-stakeholder research impact workshop on Policy Options to Curb Illicit Financial Flows, especially focusing of the Swiss Gold sector.

September 2021: New publication forthcoming at Resources Policy titled, Abnormal Pricing in International Commodity Trade: Empirical Evidence from Switzerland (with Gilles Carbonnier)
